Combine the ferocity of Lucio Fulci’s Italian gore classic “Zombi 2” with the production design of Tobe Hooper’s “The Texas Chain Saw Massacre” and you’ll wind up with something like this movie. Shot on Mini-DV for a measly budget of only $3,000 at a time when zombie movies were largely mocked by fans (“28 Days Later”) or the subject of cheeky comedies (“Shaun of the Dead”), writer/director Scott Phillips delivered his truly unique take on Romero’s mythology. Chock full of graphic violence, kick-ass fight scenes, kinky sex, and a rockin’ music score, “The Stink of Flesh” stands head and shoulders above other zombie flicks thanks to a clever screenplay and the talented cast & crew willing to rise to such a challenge.

Wandering a zombie wasteland, Matool survives by his wits and animal instinct, often employing his trusty hammer and gigantic nails to fend off the ravenous hordes of flesh-eating undead. But when he is kidnapped by a mysterious couple, Matool must rely on an entirely different weapon in his arsenal to survive...
